TANGERINE BLOG - INSTRUCTIONS
http://tangerineenglish1.tumblr.com/

As we read the novel Tangerine this semester, you are going to be keeping an “online journal”, also known as a “blog”.  You will be creating one journal/blog entry for each weekly reading assignment.  Your responses will incorporate the writing skills learned that week. You can add pictures, links to different websites or to streaming audio. You can also imbed video clips or add quotes to support your writing.

Directions for using the blog:

1. GO TO THE FOLLOWING WEBSITE:
http://tangerineenglish1.tumblr.com/

2. CHOOSE A QUESTION:

Go to "questions" and choose a question to respond to by clicking the link for that week. (I suggest that you copy the question so that you can paste it in the title (titulo) for your blog entry.)

3. WRITE A JOURNAL/BLOG ENTRY:

A. Click on the pencil icon to begin writing.

B. Type your name, question number, and paste the question that you are answering in the section where it say title (titulo).

C. Write your blog entry in the publication (publicacion) section. Remember to follow the writing skill for that week.

D. Edit your blog entry.  (You may want to do this by spell checking  in a word document before sending)

E. Choose a photo, video, image, or podcast and attach it by clicking the chain and imbedding the website. Or, choose a quote to support your blog entry.

4. SEND YOUR ENTRY:

A. Click "acepto las condiciones de colaboracion"

B. Type your email and name at the bottom of the screen and click "colaborar"

C. Click “submit” to send your edited blog entry.

5. GIVE YOUR OPINION ON YOUR CLASSMATE'S WORK:

Read your classmate's blog entries and comment on their work on their work. You must submit at least one comment on the work of your classmates. If you are unsure about to comment, have a look at this list of 10 tips for commenting:

Guidelines:

- Work hard and dig deep.  While this project will give you the opportunity to respond to the book using (in part) non-verbal means, your entries are still expected to be thoughtful and serious.  In the novel Tangerine there are many things happening on the surface, yet there’s the deeper meaning to the characters and events.  Ultimately I want for each of you to try and make some connection to that deeper meaning. You will be graded on your creativity and your ability to dig deep.

- Use the writing skills learned in class. Please be sure to be mindful of your writing skills, as you must incorporate the writing skills learned in class into your blog writing.  Pay attention to the tasks asked of you each week.

- Edit your work.  Be sure to have your work edited before it is sent.  Points will be deducted from work that is not edited.

- Comment on the work of others.  You must respond to at least one of your classmate’s comments each week.  Please be mindful of your comments and answer in an intelligent and thoughtful manner. Comments that are silly, sarcastic, or pointless with be deleted, and you will therefore get a zero for that part of your grade.

-   Late work will not be accepted.  If Internet is not working or if your dog ate your computer, you must respond to the question in your notebook by Monday. This can be in written form or typed, though I suggest that you type it so that you can paste it directly into your blog once it is corrected!

 - Keep it appropriate.  Part of what you do in an English class is learn to better articulate your thoughts.  The use of profanity is inarticulate – it’s why we use it when we’re frustrated, we can’t find the right words.  Don’t post anything profane or offensive.  If you have any questions as to appropriateness, ask me.  Any posted work that is offensive or inappropriate will result in a 0% and a written letter will go to administration and your parents.
